This is a collection of verses that range from the nature, humanity, and people. The baobab tree in the backyard has taken the lover’s role in wooing the gardener. The laborer in hollow blocks is freed from his suffering and lead to the right path by the mad Chacha. The refugees are still awaiting deliverance, and there are many questions unanswered. Finally, a small series of verses about the power and influence of women completes the book.
I wrote these poems during the first decade of my widowhood, after my husband’s early death in a car accident. Readers who are familiar with the phases of grief (shock, bargaining, denial, anger, guilt, depression, acceptance), first defined by Dr. Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, will see these phases reflected by many of the poems.
